                                                 MEANING Butoh

Scenic art originated in Japan in the late '50s, BU, means dance, and TOH,
means step.

Tatsumi Hijikata (1928 - 1986) and kazuo Ohno (1906 -) is "Source - Twin"
creator of the art of soul and body that fascinates the synthesis power of the image
- Message scenic.

The works of avant-garde artists are fruits of Japanese "cultural infidelities"
and paradoxes. Meetings with the German expressionist dance choreographers - Mary
Wigman and Harald Kreutzberg - in the '20s and '30s, clashes with European literature, particularly the French - Artaud, Genet, Lautréamont in the 50s and 60s inspired the birth of more an expression of radical and revolutionary
sensitivity and thought.

The Butoh dance requires full bodily presence, mental, and spiritual energies
internal and external human, invigorates the question of man as a
Cosmic confronting - with the everyday issues of the existence of standardized
impositions aesthetic. social, political, religious and philosophical.
The importance of Butoh dance for the performing arts of our century is equivalent to
magnitude Dance Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Mary Wigman or theater
body of Antonin Artaud, has its roots deep in Japanese culture, but
strengthens and expands beyond its borders space - time.
